Dr Miguel Gutierrez Martinez - Chiropractor & Clinic Director
"Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health."- British
Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe manipulation to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly.
Your First Visit:
When you first come to MGM Clinics, we will take you through a new patient consultation form, which may include information about you and your lifestyle plus relevant medical, exercise, and injury history. We will discuss this with
you and answer any questions you might have before your treatment.
Chiropractic can improve:
Back pain, Neck pain, Joint pain Hip pain, Knee Pain, Headache Frozen shoulder, Elbow pain Tennis elbow, Shoulder pain Migraine, Sporting aches and pains.
If you come in with pain, we will be very measured with the tests we perform. The tests help us to know if Chiropractic is going to be best for you, or whether you may benefit from Physiotherapy or Sports Massage. The Chiropractor ensures that not only are the acute symptoms dealt with, but will help to prevent a reoccurrence of symptoms which can lead to more chronic conditions.
Adjustments will be made to whichever part of the spine will achieve the optimal correction of the nervous system. These movements are subtle, and should involve no discomfort beyond that caused by your initial symptoms.Call MGM Clinics
At MGM Clinics our Chiropractor works alongside a Physiotherapist and Sports Massage Therapist towards the same goal- making the patient better. We believe each should do what they do best, but also recognise when something is better suited to be handled by one of the other practitioners.
At MGM Clinics we provide a complete system of examination, diagnosis, treatment, education and prevention advice.Meet the Team
Your first visit will last about 30 minutes, and subsequent adjustments are made quickly, within about 15 minutes. We understand many people live busy lives, and want to be helped to an efficient solution. We aim to treat you quickly and on time.
We charge £45 for a new patient/initial consultation and £38 for all subsequent appointments.
It’s always helpful if you take anything that might be relevant to your health history, such as scans, X-rays or test results.
People are often pleasantly surprised how gentle their adjustment was and how comfortable they feel. It is not uncommon for patients who are new to Chiropractic to be nervous of being adjusted. For many they will feel relief immediately following their first adjustment.
It is simply a release of gas caused by small pockets of air which are in the fluid that surrounds your joints. They are released due to a pressure exerted on the joint in the adjusted area. The sound is indicative of a build-up of those gases needing to be released and is perfectly safe.
It is recommended to have access to the area that needs to be treated. Many people wear shorts, but whatever you feel comfortable wearing is fine. During the warm up we may use some oil to assist in massage so you will be offered a towel, or gown if preferred.
it may take several sessions to make you better, however Chiropractic is a very powerful tool and we don’t believe in over-adjusting. A good ratio would be anything between 4-6 treatments when someone is in need, but in many cases because we are combining forces with Sports Massage and Physiotherapy, we expect to see real results within 2-3 sessions.
We will advise you following your treatment to help you manage your condition at home and in turn speed up recovery. Client education is at the centre of what we do at MGM Clinics and it is our goal to make sure we have well informed clients.
You will receive a pre-treatment massage from one of our Sports Massage therapists or Physiotherapists at no extra charge. Pure Chiropractic without massage is slower to see results, and it might take several weeks to feel the benefit. After a good massage and a good adjustment a person should feel immediate benefits.
Many people come to us initially to seek relief from pain. It is our goal to treat our patients quickly, whilst helping them reach a clear understanding of what is causing the issues. We give them the tools to help themselves take action to prevent those issues from reoccurring or worsening. When used in conjunction with Physiotherapy or Sports Massage we find Chiropractic to be especially beneficial in clients’ responses to treatment overall.
Many of our clients choose to continue with us, in order to maintain their good health. Much in the way people continue with a healthy eating plan when they reach their goal weight, or carry on going to the gym when they achieve their desired level of fitness. It’s the same principle with Chiropractic. Regular treatments help prevent you from ending up back where you started.
Absolutely. At this point in time, the younger generation are most at risk of spinal issues as a result of the digital age- living more sedentary lives spent in increasing amounts of time in a forward head posture looking at a screen. Sleep is also greatly affected. Their nervous systems are disturbed and they are growing with higher levels of anxiety and agitation, both physical and emotional. We have seen spinal degeneration in people as young as 13 years old and believe Chiropractic is vital in combating these issues.
Chiropractic has been proven to be extremely helpful in pregnancy. It is safe and non-invasive and adjustments can be made lying comfortably on one’s back. Up to 80% of woman experience low back pain with varying severity during pregnancy. Chiropractic during pregnancy can be useful for remedying common discomforts like back pain or for enhancing the body’s ability to have a smoother pregnancy and birth, as well as for aftercare. The reasons for back pain will vary from person to person, and may be caused by an increase in hormones, a change in the body’s centre of gravity, gaining additional weight, a decline in posture or added stress -all of which can be improved be regular treatments.
During pregnancy there are also a lot of structural changes, on the pelvis in particular. What we have found is that the health of the lower back is reduced and the body is weaker due to the structural changes that occur while the baby is growing. These can in turn cause issues during labour. Chiropractic for pregnancy is painless and can help the body prepare for labour.
We like to encourage our patients to come even before they become pregnant! However, we believe it is safe to do so at any stage during the pregnancy.
Depending on how the labour goes, some infants may benefit from a small adjustment after they are born. Parents can ‘read’ their children and will know if they may need some help. When they are crying beyond when their needs have been met, there is a reason for it. If there is a blockage in the nervous system Chiropractic can be extremely effective.
In our experience the older generation respond quickly to Chiropractic adjustments. Our older patients have for the most part learned better posture and lived more active lives and have healthier spines than our younger clients. The more active a person, they less they need us!
We ask that you give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or change an appointment, otherwise it will be chargeable at the full rate.
The body is designed to move. If you stop moving, your body will respond accordingly and a joint which is no longer being used will seize up when your body judges it is no longer needed. This is also why muscles waste so easily if you don’t exercise. Ask us about exercises you can do during your work day, or easy adaptations towards a standing desk!
The digital age is causing a lot of back/neck issues and Chiropractic is becoming a necessity. We encourage anyone who uses a phone or a computer to get adjusted every 3 months as a preventative measure.
Maintaining an active lifestyle and good posture is key. There is also a strong correlation between issues with the hamstrings and lower back pain. There is not enough awareness of how to prevent issues arising in this area and we will be happy to help educate our clients in this and other key areas. We highly recommend simple morning stretches, which are valuable and open up the Nervous System. We also run regular educational talks on the use of foam rollers- so ask us about signing up for one of these- they are free!
Our team are always happy to speak to you to answer any further questions you may have. If you wish to schedule a telephone call please call our main reception line and they will arrange a call back for you.
